Turn ordinary pine needles into a beautiful and a functional basket and/or coaster. This 3 part class will teach the basic skills of weaving with pine needles. At the end of the third class you should end up with a completed small basket and coaster.
Class 1 - Sunday, March 9th, 10am - 12:30pm
The first class will teach you the basic skills that are needed to turn pine needles into baskets. You will start with an already-started pine needle coil. You will learn one basic stitch and learn tips and tricks to succeed in building that into a sturdy coil of pine needles to form a coaster. During class, you will be introduced to concepts, terminology, and techniques to start building your pine needle structure.
Class 2 - Sunday, March 16th, 10am - 12:30pm
Now that you know the basics of stitching pine needle coils you will now learn how to start your own pine needle coil. Starting a basket is the most difficult part. However, since you already learned the skills of stitching in class one, you will have an easier time learning this aspect of basketry. This coil will become your first basket.
Class 3 - Sunday, March 23rd, 10am - 12:30pm
This third class will cover finishing techniques with the goal for you to finish both the coaster you started in the first class and the basket you started in the second class.
The photos are examples. The color of your threading may vary. The finished coaster size measures approximately 3.5” across; the basket is approximately 3.5” across and 2” high. All supplies are provided. Ages 13 and up.
This class does require fine finger dexterity. Recommended to bring close-up reading glasses, if you need them. This is a three part class, students will work on their creation between classes.
