Instructor Sarah  Juschka (NEW INSTRUCTOR)

Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Blue Moose Art Gallery

Join me for a vibrant and creative soft pastel class where we’ll bring a colorful underwater sea turtle to life using a mosaic-style approach. In this class, students will begin by drawing the turtle together, step-by-step, learning how to break the form into simple shapes and sections that lend themselves beautifully to bold color and texture.

Once the drawing is complete, we’ll layer soft pastels to create rich, luminous color, playful contrast, and a stained-glass-inspired mosaic effect that makes each turtle uniquely expressive. You’ll learn, blending techniques, layering strategies, and how to use pastel marks intentionally to create movement and depth under the sea.

If you prefer a little extra support, a turtle template will be available for tracing. Otherwise, you’re welcome to draw along with me from start to finish. Both options are encouraged and supported.

If time permits, students will have the opportunity to begin a second piece, either as a free choice, underwater design or a similar sea turtle composition, using a different color, palette, allowing for added creativity and exploration.

All supplies are provided.
This class is welcoming to younger student ages 10 and up, who are serious about art and able to focus for the duration of the class. The instruction and pacing are designed to ensure that adult students’ time and experience are fully respected, while still fostering, a creative and inclusive environment for motivated young artists.

Whether you’re new to soft pastels, or looking to explore a fresh, playful style, this class promises, a relaxed, colorful, and rewarding, creative experience.

I’m so excited to teach this class and can’t wait to explore this fun, medium and vibrant subject with you!
