Instructor Sarah  Juschka (NEW INSTRUCTOR)

Tuesday, March 17th, 2026 from 10:30am-12:30pm at the Blue Moose Art Gallery

In this fun and engaging Spring Break drawing class, young artists will learn how drawings are built, not just how to copy them.

Using cute, approachable characters such as a panda, frog, and cat, students will break each drawing down into simple shapes and clear steps, learning how artists “puzzle” a drawing together from start to finish.

Rather than tracing or following along blindly, children are guided to recognize shapes, proportions, and structure, helping them understand why a drawing works. This process-based approach builds confidence and gives students tools they can reuse when drawing independently at home or in school.

Classes like this give children the opportunity to slow down, focus, and create something tangible with their own hands. Building real skills through drawing allows kids to experience the satisfaction of making, problem-solving, and expressing ideas — a meaningful balance to the fast-paced, screen-based world they navigate every day.

Skills Your Child Will Learn

Shape recognition within drawings (circles, ovals, rectangles, and lines)

Step-by-step drawing processes and sequencing

Visual problem-solving and spatial awareness

Basic proportion and placement of features

Fine motor skills and pencil control

Creative confidence and independence in drawing

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this class, students will be able to:

Break complex drawings into simple, manageable shapes

Identify where to begin a drawing and how to build it step by step

Apply the same drawing process to new subjects and characters

Demonstrate increased confidence and independence in drawing

Use visual reasoning to “puzzle together” a drawing without tracing

For younger artists, parents or caregivers are welcome to attend and participate alongside children under age 8 if they would like to join in the fun. Having a supportive adult nearby can be especially helpful for some students and often enhances confidence, focus, and enjoyment during the drawing process.

All supplies are included, so students can simply arrive ready to create and enjoy the experience.

I’m genuinely excited to teach this class and feel confident that students will leave not only having had a lot of fun, but also feeling more confident in their sketching and drawing abilities — with a clearer understanding of how to approach drawing on their own.
