Artist and teacher, Karen combines her love for geology with silversmithing to create a striking line of jewelry, using patina-finished copper, recycled silver and gold, and precious and semi-precious stones. Karen looks at metal as a beautifully malleable material—a medium that can be cast, formed, folded, and etched in a variety of ways. During the finishing process, she delights in exploring color and texture—from red-hued copper patinas to oxidized silver. By combining silver and gold in unique combinations, she specializes in pieces that sparkle and are highly wearable. She has four main lines: form-folded cuffs; stones set in silver and gold; gold and silver rings; and etched earrings. Her work embraces the fine craft of silversmithing using various techniques and plays with mixing silver with a touch of gold.
