Inspiring Creativity and Building Community are two of the pillars of the Blue Moose Art Gallery. In 2026, we’re excited to launch our Creativity Book Club!
Each month, we invite you to read along and then join us for a lively, welcoming discussion over coffee or tea at the Emporium (inside the Elizabeth Hotel) in downtown Fort Collins.
No pressure to finish the book — or even start it. Come as you are, pull up a chair, and be part of the conversation.

August Book Study:
August 27th at 10 am - Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, facilitator Helen Holmquist-Johnson
Using Anne Lamott’s beloved book Bird by Bird as our guide, we’ll explore the joys, fears, habits, and messy realities of making art and being creative in all forms.
While Lamott writes about storytelling and writing life, her insights speak to every kind of creative practice: perfectionism, comparison, self-doubt, creative blocks, observation, play, discipline, and finding your authentic voice.
Together, we’ll discuss selected chapters, reflect on our own creative lives, and experiment with prompts that inspire curiosity.
Whether you paint, collage, sculpt, sew, journal, photograph, write, or simply want to reconnect with your creativity, this club offers encouragement, community, and permission to create “bird by bird” — one small step at a time.

Note: Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of class to allow time to purchase a warm drink from the Emporium barista.
Ages 13 and up.
Please note that we do know that things come up, so our class cancellation policy reasonably accommodates our valuable customers and is respectful of our instructors’ time and effort to prepare for and purchase materials for classes. We ask that if you must reschedule, please do so as far in advance as possible. Cancellations within 24 Hours prior forfeit the class fee, and no show forfeits the class fee. If the class minimum size is not met within 2 days before the class, the instructor or the gallery reserves the right to cancel the class. Students will be notified by phone and given full class credit. These students will be contacted first if the class is rescheduled.
