Polaroid emulsion transfers have been captivating artists since the early 1990s. Today, with the help of a special printer and app, we can create genuine Polaroid prints from our own digital images.
In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to separate the delicate emulsion layer from a Polaroid print and transfer it to a new surface. We will be working with watercolor paper, but we'll also discuss other creative possibilities for this unique process.
No two transfers are exactly alike. Wrinkles, folds, tears, and distortions often become part of the final image, creating artwork that cannot be duplicated.
Each student may print up to three images using the provided printer and materials. Please arrive with the images you'd like to use already selected. Because the prints are square, keep cropping in mind when choosing your photographs.
If you have old Polaroid prints at home, feel free to bring them along for experimentation.
