Originally from Southern California, Amy Mathews has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, and now Colorado. After moving to Colorado in 2004, she discovered her artistic voice, inspired by the state's natural beauty and the vibrant colors, textures, and everyday moments that surround her. Amy finds inspiration in the simple things that bring joy—bright scarves in a local shop, vegetables growing in a garden, colorful cars lined along a street, and Colorado's ever-changing landscapes. Through bold color, movement, and texture, she transforms these observations into expressive works that reflect her personal and emotional interpretation of the world. Working primarily in the impasto tradition, Amy creates richly textured paintings with layers of paint and physical depth. She often incorporates meaningful materials such as sand collected from a favorite lake, gold leaf, and other unique elements that add character and individuality to each piece. Guided by intuition rather than a fixed plan, she allows the creative process to unfold naturally, capturing the essence of the moment that inspired the work. In addition to painting, Amy creates original metalwork by fusing silver onto copper, as well as upcycled pieces that celebrate reclaimed materials and their inherent beauty. Texture remains the common thread in her work, inviting viewers into both a tactile and emotional experience. When she's not creating, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, cheering on her two college-aged daughters, and exploring Colorado's trails with her beloved dogs. Her love of nature, family, and adventure continues to shape both her life and her art.
