Born and raised in north central Iowa, Luke was always vested in the arts spending most of his youth drawing and painting with the occasional foray into the third dimension. Luke studied at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he nearly dropped his first pottery class after finding it intolerably frustrating. Luke persevered and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics. He further developed his personal style and process for two years as a member of the Northern Colorado Pottery Guild in Fort Collins, Colorado. In 2010 he established his first home studio in Pierre, South Dakota.
