Paula Giovanini-Morris is a textile artist currently working with eco dyed and printed textiles. She was born in Macon, Missouri, and spent her formative years in Ft Collins, Colorado, where she has resided since 1981. She is a nurse practitioner by profession and an artist by passion.  She has been showing her work professionally since 1992. She is primarily recognized for her narrative embroideries which have earned her numerous awards and have been featured in publications such as the American Journal of Nursing and Shuttle Spindel & Dyepot. Since March 2024, Paula has been exploring the area of eco dyeing and printing techniques that honor the beauty and complexity of nature.   Her work focuses on upcycled silk clothing and one-of-a-kind silk scarves that capture the vibrancy around us. Through both conventional and innovative methods, including the Dirty Pot technique, she strives to bring forth the splendor of organic forms and colors onto tactile surfaces. The basic principle of eco printing is that various leaves and plant material (fresh or dried) possess tannins which have the ability to print permanent color onto fibers in the form of fabric when combined with the proper procedure. The process usually involves some form of heat and also some pressure to create a distinct print. Paula’s  ultimate goal is to invite you to marvel at the magic inherent in these natural colors and botanical prints, curated and harvested from the world around us.  Through her art she tries to mirror the elegance and dynamism of our natural world, offering a textile created with care, creativity, and respect for the environment.
