Sarah’s paintings are an exploration of light, shape, energy, color, and emotion. Creating is her outlet for boundless creative energy, a way to honor the gift she has been given. Her work spans both landscape and figurative painting. Sarah draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of life in Steamboat Springs and anywhere outdoors. Surrounded by so much beauty, she does not chase her subjects; she waits for them to find her. Her influences come from everything she sees, feels, and experiencse, guided by an abiding appreciation for nature. She expresses her love for each subject while retaining the strength of simple, powerful shapes that celebrate sensual form and composition. From there, the painting evolves—built through thick, lush layers of paint applied with brushes, palette knives, and sometimes even her hands. Every space is meaningful to her, both positive and negative. Each piece begins with a spark of inspiration—often from memories, objects, photographs, or plein air studies. Sarah begins with sketches in charcoal or pencil and builds with acrylics, oil, pastels, and other textural mediums, painting both on location and in her studio.
